Sept. 28, 2018 - At the Produits forestiers Petit-Paris (PFPP) sawmill in Saint-Ludger-de-Milot, Que., the logs sail by at full speed on the new PHL large log saw line. “We have moved on to a new generation of saw lines,” says sawmill manager Martin Sirois. “Not so long ago, it was the workers who rotated the logs.”

Aug. 23, 2018 - USNR is expanding its operations once again, this time at its Eugene, Ore., facility. The investment moves the existing operation to a new, expanded facility that will be outfitted to meet the growing needs of USNR's business.

The Eugene facility is home to a thriving team that supports and advances USNR's optimization and veneer handling activities. It is the U.S., base for USNR's optimization technology, from hardwood, shop and moulding, and green lumber grade scanning, to veneer scanning and grading solutions. From logs to lumber and blocks to dry veneer, the Eugene team has a key role in the development of innovations for the solid wood and engineered wood industries.

The new facility encompasses over 60,000 sq. ft., situated on 3.2 acres. The majority of the space will house electrical manufacturing, with the remainder for engineering, R&D and training facilities, warehousing and sales offices. The new facility is expected to be operational in January 2019.
Aug. 15, 2018 - Touring Nechako Lumber is an all day affair. The 8.9 million square-foot site in Vanderhoof, B.C., is home to a small-log sawmill, planer mill, pellet plant and energy system, all of which are seamlessly integrated to handle 100 per cent of the roughly 900,000 tonnes (800 cubic metres) of logs that enter Nechako’s gates each year.
Aug. 7, 2018 - Maibec is happy to announce that it concluded a transaction with Groupe Lebel of Rivière-du-Loup for their acquisition of the Maibec lumber mills located in St-Pamphile, Que., and Masardis, Maine.

July 3, 2018 - A partnership between three Ontario First Nations reached an agreement to re-open Nakina sawmill, which had been shut down for a decade.

The Agoke Lumber Limited Partnership, (which consists of ArolandEabametoong and Marten Falls First Nations) and Nakina Lumber Inc. signed the deal on Friday.

Agoke partnership president Mark Bell said the decision will provide more employment opportunities and provide another revenue stream for First Nation communities. 

"This [joint venture] agreement is part of an overarching Agoke strategy that will help us continue to ensure that local forest resources are protected, managed and developed for the mutual benefit of our First Nation partners and peoples," Bell said in a statement.

May 23, 2018 - Interfor Corporation announced that it has resumed operations at its sawmill in Grand Forks, B.C., following severe flooding in the area over the past two weeks.
May 15, 2018 - Resolute Forest Products Inc. has announced a $52.3 million strategic investment plan for its Saint-Félicien pulp mill, located in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday attended by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, and many dignitaries and company employees.

"The significant investments at Saint-Félicien are expected to improve several areas of the operation, increasing the average daily production capacity by 76 metric tons and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels by 20 per cent," said Yves Laflamme, president and chief executive officer.

On April 30, 2018, Resolute announced a $13 million investment in its La Doré wood products facilities, also located in Lac-Saint-Jean. In 2016, the company inaugurated Toundra Greenhouse, located adjacent to the Saint-Félicien pulp mill, a $100 million joint venture project with local investors.

During the press conference, Laflamme thanked local employees, government officials, as well as regional academic and economic development organizations for their continued support and advocacy.

Resolute employs close to 240 workers at the pulp mill, and more than 2,000 in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.

The upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
