SK biomass centre closer to reality
Construction of the Meadow Lake Bioenergy Centre, which will use wood byproducts from Norsask Forest products, will begin this summer says the First Nations Power Authority (FNPA).

The Bioenergy Centre is a planned $150 million, 36,000 kilowatts biomass facility to produce green energy.
The FNPA was created by Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) and is partnered with SaskPower for the project.
The plan, the schedule is to try and get the project up and running by 2015,” FNPA board chairman Ben Voss told the Meadow Lake Progress.
The construction announcement comes on the heels of a signing of a new Master Agreement between the FNPA and SaskPower, who would buy the electricity produced at the FNPA facility.
In addition to the biomass facility, the FNPA and SaskPower are considering other projects to create renewable energy such as solar, wind and geothermal.
The FNPA will receive some ongoing funding from SaskPower. They have signed a three-year agreement which will see SaskPower providing $100,000 per year to the power authority, with the option to renew for another two years by mutual agreement.
FNPA and SaskPower are currently discussing additional future generation opportunities and a process for evaluating unsolicited First Nation power project proposals.
