Subtle rise in panel prices, lumber market stays flat: Madison’s

The Canada-wide rail strike dominated the conversation this week. Prices of some dimension items continued to strengthen, led by 2×6 and 2×12 in most cases.
In the week ending Aug. 23, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$396 mfbm. This is up $6, or two per cent from the previous week when it was $390.
That week’s price is up $57, or 17 per cent from one month ago when it was $339 mfbm.
When compared to the same week last year when it was $420, that week’s price is down $24, or six per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $624, that week’s price is down $228, or 37 per cent.
In the week ending Aug. 23, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $395 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $395 mfbm.
That week’s price is up $46, or 13 per cent from one month ago when it was $349 mfbm.
When compared to the same week last year when it was $423, that week’s price is down $28, or seven per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $800, that week’s price is down $405, or 51 per cent.
