Tolko first suspended its Soda Creek and Lakeview mills on Monday, putting in place 24/7 asset protection with an onsite team conducting fire protection tasks.
“Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our employees; many of whom have been displaced from their homes and are in a state of significant distress. Our message to our employees is to stay safe and look after your family and home needs first. We are taking inventory of employee location and the status of homes and family safety, so we can determine how best to provide support and assistance,” the company wrote in a news release Sunday night.
The company’s woodlands employees and contractors are working with the BC Wildfire Service to aid in the firefighting efforts.
