AV Terrace Bay has temporary idled its pulp operations at its Ontario mill due to prevailing market conditions.

In a statement released Jan. 2, the company, which is part of the Aditya Birla Group,  said the shutdown is effective immediately and will affect approximately 400 employees.

The facility, located on the north shore of Lake Superior, produces 320,000 air dry metric tons of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp.

“The mill will be put into a state of warm idle to facilitate a possible future restart,” the statement said.
