BC loggers lose at least $5M of equipment in wildfire

Aug. 23, 2018 - A group of contractors working in B.C.'s Hugh Allen Valley found their equipment to be engulfed in flames on Friday night, the Rockey Mountain Goat reports.

The group had driven there to retrieve their equipment and move it further from the wildfire in the area.

“I was very surprised at what had happened, to be quite honest,” contractor Vern Mickelson told the RMG. “I’ve seen a lot of fire behaviour in the past, but that one acted very erratically.”

The contractors estimate at least $5 million in damages. They are in discussions with insurance companies and in the process of finding replacement equipment.

The BC Wildfire Service has restricted access to the area.
