Canfor Pulp’s Northwood Pulp Mill to resume operations

July 14, 2023  By CFI Staff

Canfor Pulp Products says its Northwood Pulp Mill in Prince George, B.C., will resume production next week following a shutdown.

The company curtailed the mill on July 13 in response to the labour dispute at B.C. ports, citing a lack of storage for its pulp products awaiting shipment to customers overseas.

A tentative four-year agreement between the union representing port workers and the B.C. Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) was announced yesterday.

“The BCMEA recognizes and regrets the significant impact this labour disruption has had on the economy, businesses, workers, customers and ultimately, all Canadians,” the association said in a news release yesterday.

“We must collectively work together to not only restore cargo operations as quickly and safely as possible but to also rebuild the reputation of Canada’s largest gateway and ensure supply chain stability and resilience for the future.”
