August 12, 2021  By  Ellen Cools

The government of Canada is investing $218,240 in the Abitibiwinni First Nation to support woodland caribou recovery in the Abitibi-Temescamingue region.

According to a government press release, the project will inventory local Indigenous knowledge about the Detour and Kesagami woodland caribou populations’ habitat, demography and behaviour to support land-use planning decisions, and serve as the basis for negotiating impact and benefits agreements with the forest and mining industries in the area.
