FPInnovations and Institut Technologique FCBA sign MOU

November 17, 2015 – FPInnovations and the Institut Technologique FCBA (Forêt Cellulose Bois-construction Ameublement), a technical industrial centre in France, active in the forest/wood/furniture industries, announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop research partnerships and a framework for information exchange between their respective organizations.

The three-year agreement took effect on Nov. 1, 2015.

The initial phases will include increased sharing of experiences, knowledge, resources and best practices and will progress toward developing common research projects.

The MOU more specifically aims to create synergy between the two institutes, to stimulate open exchanges on mutual development orientations and to establish collaborative projects in the interest of both organizations' members and respective forest industries.

Two research topics have been identified to launch this agreement:

  • Construction of mid-rise and tall wood buildings as well as the building products adapted to such structures; and
  • End-of-life-management of wood buildings by applying principles of flexibility, deconstruction, reuse, recycling, and life-cycle analysis (LCA) of products.
“We are very proud of this agreement, which marks an important step for FPInnovations,” said Pierre Lapointe, president and CEO of FPInnovations. “Not only does it provide Canada's forest industry with privileged access to new knowledge and considerable market potential, but it is also a unique showcase for our organization on the international scene. This memorandum of understanding is bound to be beneficial to everyone.”

“Our common actions with our Canadian peers date back a long time—to the 1990s, in fact," added Georges-Henri Florentin, executive director of the FCBA. "Our partnership, signed within COP21's symbolic framework, on topics of global innovations in the field of tall buildings, is intended to spearhead our trades in the forest-wood industry, the 14th strategic sector in France.”

The FCBA covers all forest, pulp and wood industries, including construction and furniture, on French territory. The Institute employs over 350 people spread out in seven centres and working in the following fields: silviculture, paper pulp, logging, sawmilling, framework, carpentry, structure, wood-based panels, furniture, packaging and miscellaneous products.
