Reprieve for Lecours mill

News has surfaced of a new agreement between Lecours Lumber and the Constance Lake First Nation reserve to continue negotiations in an attempt to salvage the mill.

The Northern Times reports that following a meeting held this morning in Hearst, Lecours Lumber and Constance Lake First Nation have reached an agreement that will begin to resolve outstanding lease negotiations.

Both sides have agreed to the following:

• Constance Lake First Nation will pass a Band Council Resolution tomorrow morning to put on hold the current eviction notice.

• The parties have agreed to a process to resolve outstanding issues on or before January 16, 2013.

• Both Parties have demanded that Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, formally known as INAC, be at the table for all further discussions.

• Lecours Lumber has recalled all workers and will resume operations today.

• Constance Lake First Nation Acting Chief Fred Saskaney says this will allow us to finalize a fair lease arrangement.
