Cautious consumers keep lumber prices flat: Madison’s

Demand and takeaway improved tangibly in most categories as strong market machinations continued to be driven mostly by lack of supply. Panels were on a weird, wild ride.

In the week ending March 15, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$452 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $452.

That week’s price is up by $8, or two per cent, from one month ago when it was $444 mfbm. Compared to the same week last year, when it was $364 mfbm, that week’s price is up by $88, or 24 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,400, that week’s price is down by $948, or 68 per cent.

In the week ending March 15, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $410 mfbm. This is down by $5, or one per cent from the previous week when it was $415 mfbm.

That week’s price is up by $5, or one per cent from one month ago when it was $405 mfbm. Compared to the same week last year, when it was $522 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $112, or 21 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,430, this week’s price is down by $1,020, or 71 per cent.
