Kenora Forest Products announces layoffs, temporary curtailment

Kenora Forest Products (KFP) recently announced a two-week curtailment, effective Sept. 23, at the Kenora, Ont.-based mill.
According to Kenora Miner & News, the closure affects 115 workers. Staggered layoffs have begun and will continue over the next two weeks.
Kenora Miner & News reports that the curtailment is a result of “sustained weak lumber markets,” domestically and internationally, as well as the softwood lumber duties imposed by the U.S. (95 per cent of KFP’s lumber is exported to the U.S.)
