Islanders are encouraged to voice their opinions on forestry priorities in a series of public meetings organized by the Prince Edward Island Forestry Commission.

The recently released discussion paper Towards A New Forest Policy lays out 13 crucial issues concerning the province’s forests and the forestry industry. These include discussions on future legislative frameworks, governmental support for woodlot owners and the forest sector, the preservation of forest ecosystems, and the promotion of forest resilience.

Scheduled across various locations, the public meetings aim to gather insights into Islanders’ forestry concerns and priorities:

  • May 14: Charlottetown, Malcolm J. Darrach Community Centre
  • May 16: O’Leary, Town Hall Boardroom
  • May 21: Abram-Village, Village Musical Acadien (Bilingual meeting with simultaneous interpretation available)
  • May 23: Summerside, Credit Union Place
  • May 28: Montague, Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre
  • May 30: Souris, Eastern Kings Community Centre

All meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Abram-Village meeting will offer bilingual support.
