Slow demand keeps lumber prices flat: Madison’s

Different regions and product groups of the lumber market slowly woke up this week, even as commodity prices were largely flat. Meanwhile, plywood surged up across the board.

In the week ending Feb. 9, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$442 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $442.
That week’s price is down by $3, or one per cent from one month ago when it was $445 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was $476 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $34, or seven per cent. Compared to two years’ ago when it was $1,220, this week’s price is down by $778, or 64 per cent.

In the week ending Feb. 9, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $398 mfbm. This is down by $2, or one per cent from the previous week when it was $400 mfbm.

That week’s price is down by $50, or 11 per cent from one month ago when it was $448 mfbm. Compared to the same week last year, when it was $515 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $117, or 23 per cent. Compared to two years’ ago when it was $1,310, this week’s price is down by $912, or 70 per cent.
