West Fraser CEO Ray Ferris to retire; successor named

Hank Ketcham, chairman of West Fraser’s board of directors, has announced that Ray Ferris, president and CEO of West Fraser, is set to retire on December 31, 2023. Ferris has served with the company for over 26 years, occupying progressively higher roles, and was appointed president and chief operating officer in 2018 before taking on his current role.

Under Ferris’ leadership, West Fraser experienced substantial growth in sales, profits, product diversity, and global reach. His tenure was marked by a steadfast dedication to enhancing safety, environmental initiatives, and employee programs.

Effective January 1, 2024, Sean McLaren, the current chief operating officer, will assume the role of president and CEO. McLaren boasts a 35-year history with West Fraser and its precursor firms. He is recognized for his leadership abilities and commitment to the company’s philosophy of cost-efficient production and a balanced financial approach to support expansion and strategic opportunities.
