Multiple media sources had reported that the wildfire west of the city had grown to more than 1,000 hectares by 6:00p.m. yesterday, forcing 500 residents out of their homes. However, the CBC has since reported that a fire official has informed them that the fire has doubled in size.
More than 100 firefighters have been working to contain the fire in an attempt to prevent from spreading closer to Fort McMurray. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has issued a voluntary evacuation order for the town of Gregoire.
