Winter weather keeps lumber sales low: Madison’s

Much of the North American lumber market was frozen in place as frigid weather descended across the continent. Commodity prices were flat or on either side of the previous week’s levels, while supply and demand both went into hibernation mode.
In the week ending Jan. 19, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$442 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $442.
That week’s price is up by $31, or eight per cent, from one month ago when it was $411 mfbm.
Compared to the same week last year, when it was $374 mfbm, that week’s price is up by $68 or 18 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,170 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $728 or 62 per cent.
In the week ending Jan. 19, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $445 mfbm. This is down by $15, or three per cent from the previous week when it was $460 mfbm.
That week’s price is down by $8, or two per cent, from one month ago when it was $453 mfbm.
Compared to the same week last year, when it was $430 mfbm, that week’s price is up by $15, or three per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,475 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $1,030, or 70 per cent.
