B.C. nears worst wildfire season on record

Aug. 16, 2017 - An estimated 8,450 square kilometres of forest has burned since April 1 in B.C., and officials expect that number to overtake the 1958 record of 8,550 kilometres before the end of the season.

More than 4,100 people, hundreds from outside the province, are contributing to the firefighting efforts, which have thus far cost the province $309 million.
