An incident in Thunder Bay, Ont., involving a log loader vehicle resulted in the fatal injury of a Dallan Forestry worker at the Resolute Forest Products sawmill on Jan. 24.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development told The Chronicle-Journal that they were notified, and a ministry inspector attended the scene on Darrel Avenue and continues with the investigation.

Louis Bouchard, Resolute’s vice-president of public affairs, confirmed that the incident occurred in one of Resolute’s storage yards.

“Unfortunately the incident led to the death of one of our external contractor’s employees,” he said.

“The precise circumstances leading to the incident are currently under investigation. Resolute is fully supporting its contractor and the relevant authorities in their investigation. Out of respect for the victim’s family and loved ones, or any other person affected by this incident, Resolute will not comment further on the situation. All our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones.”

Bouchard added that support measures have been deployed for people affected by this event to help them in this difficult period.
