BC forest company executives on trade mission to Asia

From Nov. 10 to 15, 2019, 35 senior executives from B.C. forest companies and associations, along with B.C. minister of forests, lands, natural resource operations and rural development Doug Donaldson, will meet with stakeholders in Asia to promote B.C.’s wood products.

According to a government press release, China represents 28 per cent of B.C.’s forest product exports and Japan is the province’s third-largest export market for lumber products.

Delegates will attend the Sino-Canadian Wood Forum in Shanghai, where they will meet with Chinese businesses with the goal of expanding markets for B.C. wood products, particularly to the higher-value segment of Chinese markets.

In Japan, the delegates will participate in a “Canada wood strategy session” to learn about the developments made in the Japanese market in the last year. Delegates will also go to the Japan Home Show to view a full-scale resource and development demonstration centre that shows Canadian wood in market-building innovations.

They will also meet with Sumitomo (a Japanese business group), the Wood Pellet Association and B.C. Trade and Investment.
