Lumber sales improve as builders look toward spring: Madison’s

Uncertainty prevailed in much of the North American lumber market; field inventories were lean in every lumber product category.

In the week ending Feb. 16, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$442 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $442.

That week’s price is down by $3, or one per cent from one month ago when it was $445 mfbm. Compared to the same week last year when it was $470 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $28, or six per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,230, this week’s price is down by $788, or 64 per cent.

In the week ending Feb. 16, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $403 mfbm. This is up by $5, or one per cent from the previous week when it was $398 mfbm.

That week’s price is down by $45, or 10 per cent from one month ago when it was $448 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was $520 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $117, or 23 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,330, that week’s price is down by $928, or 70 per cent.
