Lumber supply and demand stabilize: Madison’s

Demand was a jot slower following the frenzy generated by last week’s short-lived Canada-wide rail strike. All eyes were on post-Labour Day long weekend for indication of market conditions.

In the week ending Aug. 30, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$396 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $396. That week’s price is up $57, or 17 per cent from one month ago when it was $339 mfbm.

When compared to the same week last year when it was $420, that week’s price is down $24, or six per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $555, that week’s price is down $159, or 29 per cent.

In the week ending Aug. 30, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $395 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $395 mfbm. That week’s price is up $46, or 13 per cent from one month ago when it was $349 mfbm.

When compared to the same week last year when it was $445, that week’s price is down $50, or 11 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $760, that week’s price is down $365, or 48 per cent.
