Soft demand drops lumber prices slightly: Madison’s

Demand for solid wood products took a breather this week as buyers had their immediate needs covered ahead of the Easter holiday weekend.

In the week ending March 29, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$452 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $452. That week’s price is up by $8, or two per cent, from one month ago when it was $444 mfbm.
Compared to the same week last year, when it was $356 mfbm, that week’s price is up by $96, or 27 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,410, that week’s price is down by $958, or 68 per cent.

In the week ending March 29, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $391 mfbm. This is down by $9, or two per cent from the previous week when it was $400 mfbm. That week’s price is down by $14, or four per cent from one month ago when it was $405 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was $542 mfbm, that week’s price is down by $151, or 28 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,200, this week’s price is down by $809, or 67 per cent.
